Podiatry
Podiatry is the science of studying people's feet. The most common complaints treated with podiatry are;

Chiropody
Chiropody is a branch of Podiatry that deals with dermatological (skin and nail) conditions of the feet. The most common complaints treated with Chiropody are;
- In growing toe nails
- Bunions
- Hard skin
- Corns / Callus formation
- Painful / Cracked heels
Ruth's top tips for improving your feet are;
- Apply a good foot cream regularly all over the feet EXCEPT between your toes.
- Cut nails straight across and not too short. Do not cut down into the corners as this will lead to ingrowing toe nails. Diabetic patients should have their nails cut by a state registered Podiatrist.
- Don't ignore pain. Pain in the feet is not normal and most conditions can be diagnosed and treated simply.
- Treat home remedies for corns and callus with caution, many contain acids which can damage the healthy skin causing more harm than good and leaving you susceptible to infection.
- Buy shoes appropriate for your sport / activity e.g. running shoes, tennis shoes etc. Choosing the correct supportive footwear for sport will prevent injuries and increase performance.
